Singapore, June 19, 2024 – Following the resounding success of the April tour in China, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) returns triumphantly. SCO visited three cities – Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre Grand Theatre, The National Maritime Museum in Tianjin Eco City, Tianjin Grand Theatre, and Beijing Centre for Performing Arts Concert Hall – and performed four concerts, captivating as many as 3,500 attendees. Through ticketed concerts and an outreach concert, SCO brought its uniquely Singaporean Chinese orchestral music to the Chinese audiences. Following this successful tour, SCO will present the ” CONFLUENCE: SCO China Concert Tour 2024 Homecoming Concert” on July 6, 2024, at the SCO concert hall.

Mr. Terence Ho, Executive Director of SCO, shared, “Our performances in China not only showcased uniqueness of the Nanyang style of music but also received standing ovations and overwhelming responses. With this homecoming concert, we aim to inspire the audience with fresh encounters of Eastern and Nanyang music and enable more individuals to experience the distinctive repertoire of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra during its tour in China”.

Under the baton of Conductor Emeritus Conductor Tsung Yeh, featuring Concertmaster and Strings Section Leader Li Baoshun, and Pipa Principal Yu Jia, SCO brings an evening of mesmerising programme with Nanyang flavour, showcasing works previously performed in Suzhou and Beijing. The concert will feature the intense and emotional Fire Ritual, composed by Tan Dun performed by Li Baoshun on the huqin, and a new pipa concerto by Luo Maishuo Stairway to Heaven, performed by Yu Jia on the pipa. Additionally, the concert will revisit two beloved compositions with uniquely Nanyang Flavour, co-composed by Cultural Medallion recipients: – Admiral of the Seven Seas – Zheng He by Mr Law Wai Lun and Tapestries by Mr Eric Watson.
